How To Compare Horses And Quickly Spot The Winner While You Handicap Horse Races

Posted on March 10, 2008 in Recreation and Sports by admin

Many people wonder how to compare runners in a horse race and handicap the race so that the winner stands out above all the rest. First of all, there is no such thing as a guaranteed runner, but there are probabilities. What you are really looking for when you handicap horse races is a horse that seems to have more going for it than the others. The next thing you look for is a horse with a lot going for it that the crowd has overlooked. It does happen and the reason is that the crowd usually underestimates a particular piece of information.

Not only do you have to compare the different factors, like early speed, class, equipment changes, etc. But you also have to know how important each one of those factors are. Maybe early speed is the most important factor or maybe not. Maybe you are leaning toward a horse because it has early speed while others are betting a horse with back class. After the race is over you’ll know who was right, but that is too late. You need to know before the race, which handicapping factor is the most important and how important the other things are. Then you have to put it all together and relate it to how the horses are being bet.

Your job as a handicapper is to find that horse that is underestimated and to bet it. It is no easy task to find such an overlay because there are a lot of sharp handicappers out there, but one thing that can help is to use visuals. Visuals are tools that show you graphically how the runners compare to each other. The best visuals are the ones you make for yourself, because the crowd doesn’t have them. Anybody can buy a form or program, but how many people do you know of who have even ever heard of such things as visuals?

A good example of a simple yet powerful visual tool is Ladder Handicapping. It works two ways, first it compares the strengths and weaknesses of each runner based on key handicapping factors and secondly it shows your strengths and weaknesses in how you have been betting based on those factors. Try it and see how quickly you can go from losing to winning and how you can compare and quickly spot the winner when you handicap horse races.

The most consistent horse racing systems have to have the basics and a handicapper must understand the basics. I have been around horse racing for 50 years including as an owner. Without the basics the rest is not going to do any good. If you want to learn how a horse owner and insider handicaps just go to True Handicapping and get the truth.
