A few months ago my husband and I had a very restricted life due to arthritis; and the side-effects of the arthritis medication!

A new friend introduced us to a new way of life, and alternative natural products for arthritis, and along the way we found we needed to change a few things, and read a lot of labels, and not just labels on food!

Did you know that just living and breathing creates free radicals in our bodies? Our bodies are designed to deal with free radicals, but when we are flooded with free radicals, damage shows up in that we have signs of chronic diseases, even cancers!
In a typical day we can be flooded with chemicals in food, the air we breathe, and even the soap and shampoo and cleaners in our bathrooms. We are getting more information from the media regarding “what they are putting in our shampoo”, and the dangers of formaldehyde in clothing; even what micro-waves do to our food.

So, how do we live well, even survive in this world? The answer seems to be antioxidants; and more antioxidants! The latest word from the scientists seems to be; don’t go for the tablets-go for natural foods; and natural food supplements.

We changed our shopping list, and we now buy fresh; fresh fruit and veggies, and steam them, not microwave. We found a butcher that has chemical free meat; it really doesn’t cost more than supermarkets! We buy organic fruit and veg when we can to avoid the potential chemical contaminates.

Basically we avoid anything that has been packaged and has a shelf life! That way we avoid a lot of additives, no matter what the number!

We have fresh juiced vegetables a couple of times a week, and we add liquid nutritional supplements that are loaded with antioxidants from whole fruits and vegetables, and a liquid mineral and trace supplement; because unless we have adequate minerals in our bodies, we can’t utilize the antioxidants and vitamins in our food. I’m not claiming to be perfect; old habits are hard to break, but as we feel better, it is easier to reinforce good habits!

We looked up Blueberries, Raspberries, Pomegranites, in research articles in Pubmed, and found that a cup of Blueberries a day has a “neuroprotective” effect, and that means help with diseases like Alzheimers Disease.

The foods we choose to eat each day has such a powerful effect on us, and in this busy world we often don’t stop to buy the best for ourselves, or we think it costs to much; but when you substitute blueberries for icecream or cake; which really costs the most?
