2 Main Drugs to Prevent Hair Loss

Anyone looking for aids to check hair loss is bound to find themselves spoilt for choice or even confused, as there are so many loss of hair products on offer these days. It gets even more complicated when some of the loss of hair products make outrageous promises, like the promise of immediate (and side-effect free) results; which naturally feels like music to the ears of the person struggling with the problem of hair loss.

The sad truth of the matter about most of these aids for loss of hair, however, is that they simply don't work. Their makers capitalize on what they view as people's desperation with 'the hair loss problem' to offer people dud products that simply can't help them in any way, and some of which could actually leave the users with some rather obnoxious side effects in the long run.

People who are struggling with loss of hair are therefore typically advised to stick with the hair loss aids that are approved by the relevant government agencies (like the FDA in the USA), the fact that these approved loss of hair aids tend not to give the outrageous promises notwithstanding.

As it turns out, though, in spite of there being so many hundreds of hair loss aids, if you narrow down your search to only products that are approved by the FDA, you end up with very few of them indeed. In fact, going through mainstream pharmacy literature, it would seem that there are only a couple of drugs that have won approval as suitable aids for the loss of hair problem, the drugs in question being Minoxidil and Finasteride; with anyone looking for REAL and safe hair loss being strictly advised to stick with these two.

Minoxidil itself (which is known to many people simply as Rogaine) comes in the form of a solution, which is topically applied on the scalp to check loss of hair. In some cases, Rogaine has even been known to stimulate new growth of hair on sites where hair had all but died out completely. Now although Minoxidil is certainly a proven and relatively safe hair loss aid, it important to use the right solution of it (as it comes in two varieties – one for men and one for women); if you are to get its full benefits. A man using the female (2%) version of Minoxidil, for instance, could find himself not getting the expected results, as 2% Minoxidil is simply not potent enough to deal with most cases of male loss of hair. As one starts making use of Minoxidil, it is important to take note that this drug does not promise instant results, and it could in fact be almost half a year before you can see the desired results. Moreover, Minoxidil does not promise permanent results, and if you stop using the drug, you can be sure of getting back to your struggles with loss of hair.

Turning to Finasteride, it is important to start with a strong warning that this is strictly men-only hair loss aid, and women should – ideally – not as much as handle the drug, which unlike Minoxidil comes in the form of a pill. Again, like Minoxidil, you should not expect immediate results with Finasteride, and it could actually take up to half a year to get the desired results from the drug. Moreover, just like Minoxidil, Finasteride does not promise permanent results, meaning that should you stop taking it, you would be bound to start your struggles with hair loss problems sooner than later.
