Occupational therapy (OT) and physical therapy are often confused. Frozen shoulder is a serious condition that affects your shoulder joint. Older woman are most likely to be affected than other group. Approximately two percent of the entire population will have this condition in some time of their lives.
People with frozen shoulder syndrome usually suffer for approximately two years. They normally don’t retain only 90% shoulder range of motion and lose 80% strength. Frozen shoulder has unique stages of recovery. They are:
- Acute Stage (2 to 9 months)
This is when pain is at it’s worse. Performing daily activities can be torturous and the patient is deprived of sleep. It is important you visit your GP (General Practitioner) as soon as possible so that he/she prescribe you with NSAID (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug) to relieve your inflammation and pain. It is best not to do any overhead movements and lifting during this period as it may aggravate your symptoms.
Frozen Shoulder – Why Me?

Frozen Shoulder or frozen shoulder syndrome is also often called adhesive capsulitis.
Unlike any other joint in the body, the shoulder joint hangs in its socket and is mostly supported from above. While this makes it a very multifunctional and flexible joint, it also leads to a high degree of instability.
While this condition is found most often with the over forties, and affecting 2-3% of the population, it can, surprisingly, also effect youngsters.
Many conditions are credited with causation; hormonal influences, under use, interference of the nerve supply emanating from the neck and upper thoracic spine, trauma, and poor posture to name just a few.

SCIATICA
is the Latin word for “Pain down the back of the leg” Sciatica is referred pain usually caused by trapping the sciatic nerve in the lower back.
The sciatic nerve runs from the lower back down through the buttocks and along the back of each leg. Sciatica is pain along this nerve and is a relatively common form of back pain and is usually caused by pressure on the sciatic nerve from a herniated or bulging disc. The pain from sciatica can be anything from infrequent and irritating to severe and debilitating. Usually, it affects only one side, the pain radiating through the buttock and down the leg and is often associated with a constant pain on one side of the buttocks, pain in the leg and/or buttock that may be worse when sitting , burning or tingling down the leg, weakness, numbness or difficulty moving the leg or foot or a shooting pain that makes it difficult to stand up. While sciatica can be extremely painful and uncomfortable, it is rare that permanent nerve damage (tissue damage) results. Most pain is due to inflammation and will improve within a period of time. Nerve pain is caused by a combination of pressure and inflammation on the nerve root, and treatment is centred on relieving both of these conditions.
